Oman Ministry of Higher Education Scholarship Eligibility

Oman Ministry of Higher Education (MOHE) has mandated that students who wish to pursue engineering programmes must score at least 65%  in the 12th Grade to qualify for a Ministry Scholarship.

MOHE scholarships will not be available to any student who fails twice during the course of his/her studies.

The scholarship is awarded for a total of four years only.

 

 

Admission Process

 

Step 1: Submit Application

If the above eligibility requirements have been met, the student should complete and submit the application form (available at the college admission office), along with the following documents.

For Omani Nationals:

  • A Copy of General Secondary School Certificate
  • Copy of Passport
  • Copy of Omani ID card
  • Four passport  size photographs
  • Non-refundable application/entrance test fee of R.O. 20.000

For International Candidates:

  • Copy of General Secondary School Certificate (GSEC) /Class 12 grade (equivalence) attested by Sultanate of Oman Embassy and Ministry of Foreign Affairs in their respective country.
  • Applicant's passport copy with valid residence visa (for non-GCC residents).
  • Four passport -size photographs of the applicant.
  • Non-refundable application/entrance test fee of R.O. 40.000

 

Step 2: Appear for the College Entry Test

All applicants should undertake the college Entry Test consisting of English, Mathematics, Science & Information Technology (IT). Candidates should successfully pass College Entry Test in order to get a place in any one of the higher education programmes. Passing criteria for ICEM entry test to degree programmes are:

  • English  IELTS 5.0 equivalent (with none of the four areas of writing, speaking, listening and reading below 4.5).
  • Mathematics, Science & IT  pass with 40%. Applicants will be exempted from English component of College's placement Test if they hold the following:
    1. An IELTS score of at least 5.0 (with none of the four areas of writing, speaking, listening and reading below 4.5).  IELTS certificate dated within the last 6 months.
    2. TOEFL Paper score of 510
    3. TOEFL Internet Based Test (IBT) score of 64+
    4. TOEFL Computer Based Test (CBT) score of 180+. TOEFL certificate dated within the last 12 months.  Note: We do not accept TOEFL Institutional Testing Program (ITP) test
    5. CEFR (Common European Framework Referencing) Grade : B1

 

Step 3: Offer of Admission based on your College Entry Test

The college will  offer a place based on your performance in the Entry Test. Candidates who do not satisfy the above entry criteria to any of the ICEM higher education programmes can enrol on the following two Foundation Programmes listed below.

General Foundation Programme:

  • Pass in Oman grade 12 examination (Thanawiya amma) with Pure or Applied Maths or equivalent qualification as per Oman Qualification Framework. Candidates should achieve IELTS 2.0

ICEM Pre-Foundation Programme:

  • Pass in Oman grade 12 examination (Thanawiya amma) with Pure or Applied Maths or equivalent qualification as per Oman Qualification Framework. Candidates should achieve IELTS 1.0

 

Step 4: Enrol to the Course

Enrol at ICEM on or before the first teaching day. Private and International students must pay their fees according to schedule given with the offer letter.

A variety of payment options are available to students including online direct payment. Details of these options will be available from Student Support Services (S3) once registration has been completed.

Study Options

Study period for our Undergraduate Degree Courses requires up to three semesters (September - September) on our International Foundation Programme and two semesters per year (September- January; January-June) on our Undergraduate Programmes.

Apart from the regular full time study in the morning and evening batches, completion of Year 1, Year 2 and Year 3 of the full-time programme may be achieved through any of the flexible options listed below, designed to fit working people / job holders :

Flexible Options :

Part-Time day (s) Release - Study for one or two days per week*

Part-Time Evening Study - Study for two, three or four evenings per week*

Part-Time Block Study - 2 weeks study followed by 2 weeks at work*

*Subject to sufficient demand

 

Credit Transfers

If the student has obtained a qualification from a recognised and/or approved higher education institution or has completed part of an undergraduate programme, he/she may be considered for credit transfer based on the relevance of the subjects  he/she has studied to the modules of the programmes chosen by him/her. Credit transfer will be granted after verifying the syllabus of  prior learning to match with our college syllabus to ensure that he/she is given every opportunity to obtain credit without missing out on any important parts of skills development.

Please note that training programmes and in-house skills development programmes are not considered for credit transfer.

We could give the student an initial idea about the modules eligible for credit transfer if he/she applies for the Possibility Check of Module Credit Transfer. The application for this must consist of the following:

  • Fully completed possibility check form which can be obtained from our Admissions Department.
  • Copy of official transcript.
  • Stamped copy of course syllabus.

Transferable Skills Development

Our courses include transferable skills development as a core component.
These skills are highly valued by industry and ensure that the student has the
skills required for a graduate career. Transferable skills include learning how
to lead a team, learning how to be a good team player, learning how to motivate
other members of a team, developing good communication skills and presentation
skills.

Emphasis on English Skills Development

As stated in Step 2 above, the student requires CEFR B1 level (IELTS
equivalent of 5.0) to gain entry to our undergraduate programmes.
In addition we provide modules that will improve students' English by 0.5 per
year on the course. This ensures that a student's level of English is
sufficient should he/she choose to study the final year of the degree Programme
in the UK.
These courses are a core component of a student's degree. In addition to this,

It is very important for the student to gain industrial experience
whilst studying for a degree.
To facilitate this, in addition to providing industrial visits to some of
the top employers in Oman and getting visiting speakers we also offer the
option of a work placement opportunity with support from our Industrial
Interaction Team to help students find a suitable placement.

Volunteering and Community Leadership

Students will also have the opportunity to take an approved volunteering
placement whilst studying, this gives them an opportunity to work in the
community helping others.
Our Centre for Volunteering and Community Leadership CVCL (Oman) works with our
CVCL partners at UCLan in the UK , Turkey and Pakistan to offer global youth
leadership training for our students and global/local volunteering activities.

Additional Vocational Qualifications

A student's degree is the most important qualification that he/she will
work towards at ICEM, however he/she will also have the opportunity to acquire
additional industry recognized vocational qualifications such as Approved
First Aid Training Certificate; Institute of Occupational Safety and Health
(IOSH) Certification; National Executive Board of Occupational Safety and
Health Certification (NEBOSH). Most of these can be taken at a nominal or
subsidised cost.Adding these qualifications to the CV, significantly enhances
students'  job prospects.
